Pedestrian killed in Durham crash

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed Sunday night while walking along University Drive in Durham, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed Sunday night while walking along University Drive in Durham, police said. 

Daniel Leon Lauray Jr., 59, of Durham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was hit shortly after 9 p.m. by a 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Peter Segal of Durham. Segal and a passenger in his vehicle were uninjured.

According to investigators, the accident remains under investigation, but no charges are pending.

University Drive was closed between Vickers Avenue and Summit Street while officers investigated the accident.
