Pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by tractor-trailer in Fayetteville

Fayetteville police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a tractor-trailer Thursday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A pedestrian was struck Thursday night and critically injured after he was struck by a tractor-trailer, police said.

Gary L. Presler, 54, of Fayetteville, was rushed for medical treatment to UNC Health Care in Chapel Hill, where he was listed Friday in critical condition, police said in a written statement.

The tractor-trailer was driven by William S. Barefoot, 55, of Benson, police said. He was not hurt during the incident.

,Authorities said the big rig was turning left from the All American Expressway off-ramp onto Raeford Road at about 7:10 p.m. when Presler was struck. It was not immediately clear if the victim was in a cross walk when the incident occurred.

Investigators have not yet said if charges would be filed in connection with the incident.
