CLAYTON, N.C. — A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a car in Johnston County just after 9 p.m. on Friday.

The accident happened on U.S. Highway 70, near exit 326.

Troopers said three cars were involved in the incident.

The first car went down an embankment, and the driver got out and was walking in the roadway when he was hit by the second car.

The third car then ran over the body, but the driver didn't realize it and kept going, according to authorities.

When the driver got out of the third car and saw blood on the car, they called the State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said no charges will be filed because the pedestrian was in the roadway.

All westbound lanes have been reopened on U.S. 70.
