DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police were investigating an armed carjacking that happened early Friday.

Two men in a black 2002 GMC Denali stopped in the 1100 block of Juniper Street shortly after 1:30 a.m. Friday to talk to three women when a man riding a bicycle approached the group, police said. The bike rider pulled a gun on the group, and one of the men from the SUV was shot in the arm as he tried to knock the gun away, police said.

The gunman fled in the SUV, leaving a mountain bike behind, and the three women scattered, police said.

The wounded man was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment.

The gunman is described as a black man, about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds, with hair braided in cornrows. He was wearing a white shirt and jeans.
