Passenger killed in fiery crash near Fuquay-Varina

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 2001 Dodge pickup truck ran off the road, overcorrected and traveled across the center line into a ditch at Old Stage Road and Tarheel Blue Lane around 2:15 a.m. The truck then hit a tree, overturned and caught fire, officials said.

The driver of the truck was transported to WakeMed with serious injuries, and a passenger in the truck died.

The victims were not identified. Officials said charges were pending.
