RAEFORD, N.C. — A Parkton man was killed early Friday in a head-on collision in Hoke County, authorities said.

A pickup truck headed east on N.C. Highway 210 crossed the center line about seven miles east of Raeford and collided with a westbound tractor-trailer shortly before 1:30 a.m., authorities said.

The driver of the pickup, Darrick Rodgers, 41, died. The driver of the tractor-trailer, whose name wasn't released, wasn't injured.

Both vehicles caught fire shortly after the collision.

Rodgers was headed home from work, and authorities said he might have fallen asleep at the wheel. Alcohol wasn't involved in the wreck, they said.

The tractor-trailer was owned by Southern Christian Transportation Inc., based in Pembroke. It was carrying a load of steel cables from Pembroke to Moore County.
