RALEIGH, N.C.Wake Schools leaders announced Friday students will have five days of remote learning in the 2020-21 school year, as required by a measure recently passed by state lawmakers and signed into law by Governor Roy Cooper.
School leaders say they haven't yet scheduled those days into the school calendar.
One Wake County parent who asked to remain anonymous told WRAL News he has two children in high school. He says the last four weeks of online learning have been stressful, and he'd like to see more structure.
“It’d be great to get an email on Monday to say, ‘Hey this is our plan for Tuesday,'” he said.
Wake County, like most other school systems, has been dogged by technical and other problems as it's struggled to implement online learning after schools statewide were closed March 13th.
Friday morning, Wake leaders said they're aware of those challenges and are working to improve for next year.

Superintendent Cathy Moore said they're planning surveys for educators and parents about what's been working this spring, what hasn't been working, and how it could be improved.

Wake Board of Education chairman Keith Sutton said he expects to soon "begin a more formal process to look at how these changes will impact plans for the future and moving to a virtual district.”
They're hoping parents will understand it’s a work in progress.
“Might not be perfect," said the anonymous parent who spoke to WRAL News, "but it’s great they are trying. That’s the American spirit. We get out there, and if it doesn’t work, we try again and make corrections until we’re successful.”
Wake and other districts throughout the state are required to submit a remote learning plan to the N.C. Department of Public Instruction by July 20, 2020.
