FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A paratrooper, a member of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, was injured Thursday in a live-fire exercise at Fort Bragg.

An 82nd Airborne spokesman said the soldier and his team were clearing a building when a round from his gun ricocheted, striking him in the foot. He said the paratrooper was at Womack Army Medical Center doing well and would make a full recovery.

The Army did not release the name or condition of the paratrooper.

“We take the safety and well-being of our paratroopers very seriously, and will ensure both the recovery of this paratrooper and the investigation of the incident are handled with the utmost care,” said Col. Andrew Saslav, 1BCT commander.

The commander of the First Brigade Combat Team told WRAL's Bryan Mims an investigation will be conducted.
