The Carolina Panthers are planning to release tight end Hayden Hurst, according to a report.

The Athletic's Joe Person was first to report the news about Hurst.

An unnamed source told Person that the team gave the 30-year-old Hurst to take a pay cut to remain on the team.

Hurst declined and the Panthers are expected to release him before March 16 when he is due to collect a $1.85 million roster bonus, according to OverTheCap.com.

The Panthers will clear only $52,000 in cap space by cutting Hurst before March 16, with $9.9 million in dead money, Person reported.

A concussion injury limited Hurst to nine games in the 2023 season.

Hurst caught the first touchdown pass of Bryce Young's NFL career. He finished the season with 18 receptions for 184 yards and one touchdown.

In March 2023, Hurst signed a three-year deal worth $21.75 million.
