Pair charged after body of Wilson man found in his yard

Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of a Wilson man who was found shot in his yard Monday morning.

WILSON, N.C. — Two people were arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of a Wilson man who was found shot in his yard Monday morning.

Police were called to a home in the 400 block of Stadium Street around 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they found Evard Earl Artis, 63, in his yard, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers tried to revive Artis, but he died at the scene.

Jimmie Ray Turner Jr., 57, of 8134 Renfrow Road in Kenly, and Ashley Nichole Harrell, 30, of 302 Wooten Ave. in Stantonsburg, have been charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in Artis' death.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Wilson police at 252-399-2323.
