OXFORD, N.C. — Concerned viewers have reached out to WRAL about multiple shooting incidents in Oxford.

The city’s mayor, Jackie Sergent, confirmed three shootings over the last 10 days.

WRAL has asked the Oxford Police Department when and where these shootings occurred, but has not received answers.

Police Chief Pat Ford told WRAL over text messages to expect a press release, but it has been delayed because in her words, "everyone is out investigating."

Chief Ford was not available for an interview Wednesday, but she said the department is using all available resources to gather information and evidence.

Sergent said that to her knowledge, there have been three unrelated incidents since Sept. 4. Sergent said all of them are being investigated by police.

Tuesday evening, Oxford City Councilors had a presentation on the 2021 UCR crime report, which showed more than a 20% decrease in property and violent crimes since 2019.

"We have faith in our PD and that they will bring the perpetrators to justice," Sergent wrote in a text message.

The Granville County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the existence of recent incidents being investigated by the Oxford Police Department. Their public information officer told WRAL they are ready to assist, but are not currently doing so.
