For nearly 500 years, wild horses have roamed the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Banding together, they've survived hurricanes and storm surges, even outlasting towns and villages that have been washed away over the centuries.

The next generation of wild horses is growing, with the herd welcoming an adorable new foal this week.

According to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, the new baby is a filly, who seems to be less than a week old.

They've named her Ceres.

According to their Facebook post, she's the seventh foal to be born in 2022. They all share 'C' names: Cedar, Cricket, Cyclone, Crow, Cádiz, Ceres, and Charlie.

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund, who works to protect, conserve and responsibly manage the herd, shared photos of the newborn on their Facebook page. One photo showed the knobby baby standing alongside two other horses, with dozens of people commenting on how they look forward to seeing the sweet foal grow up along the North Carolina beaches.
