Oskar Blues is never one to blend in to the grocery store shelf.

The brewery's North Carolina state manager, Preston Burke, said the company, which also owns Florida's Cigar City, is always looking for ways to stand out. First, it was their canned Dale's Pale Ale in a sea of bottles, then it was 19.2 ounce cans.

Now, they're selling beer in a 16-can pack.

"We're always trying to find some way to be different and dynamic," Burke said on the 919 Beer Podcast.

The square packaging sits differently on the shelf than the rectangular 12 or 15 packs, which makes it stand out. The difference, though, is just part of Oskar Blues' tradition.

"We were the first ones to do 19.2 (ounce cans), and those are becoming popular now, too," Burke said. "Then you're looking at large-format packaging of 15 packs, so we're putting out a 16 pack."

The brewery started its four-by-four lineup with the Pinner Throwback IPA and added for 2018 a 16er of Mama's Little Yella Pils.
