HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Students at Hillsborough's Cedar Ridge High School were dismissed around noon on Monday afternoon.

School officials made the call to send students home early before the roads got bad. Officials in Wake and Durham counties made the same decision.

"I think the school system made the right call," said Ronald Burnot, a junior at Cedar Ridge High.

In Hillsborough, snow plows were driving the streets by Monday afternoon. The State Department of Transportation said 18 trucks will salt, sand or plow when needed.

As students and parents left school, they were already thinking about tomorrow. They think a delayed start or a cancellation is the way to go.

"I think it's important to keep the kids safe," said Monica Vaughn. "Especially with high school and student drivers."

"I definitely think that tomorrow it's not going to be safe to drive," Burnot said.

Students said they were looking forward to catching up on homework, and parents were excited for extra family time.
