CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A bail bondsman was charged Friday with conspiring with an Orange County jailer.

Authorities said the Orange County Sheriff's Office conducted an undercover investigation into a tip that a jailer was giving bondsman Wycliffe Deneen-Niko Harrigan inside information about people who had been arrested and needed to be bonded out of jail.

After an subsequent investigation by state Department of Insurance criminal investigators, Harrigan, 38, of 149 Viburn Way in Carrboro, was charged with one count of aiding and abetting unlicensed bail bonding.

He was released on a written promise to appear in court.

The jailer, whose identity wasn't released, was also arrested.
