Triangle real estate market reaching fever pitch
RALEIGH, N.C. — New data from Opendoor shows where people most want to live in the Raleigh-Durham market.

Opendoor found which ZIP codes were the most searched by potential home buyers to compile the following list:

  1. 27502 - Apex and Friendship
  2. 27529 - Garner and White Oak
  3. 27520 - Clayton, Powhatan, Willow Springs
  4. 27519 - West Cary and Carpenter
  5. 27713 - Durham, Southpoint, Genlee, Blands
  6. 27540 - Holly Springs, Wilbon, Feltonville
  7. 27527 - Clayton, Archer Lodge, Wilsons Mills
  8. 27703 - Durham, Bethesda, Oak Grove, Joyland
  9. 27526 - Fuquay-Varina, Chalybeate Springs, Holland, Kipling, Cokesbury, Kennebec and Duncan
  10. 27587 - Wake Forest, Stony Hill, Forestville, New Light, Falls Lake, Rolesville

The list doesn't include any ZIP codes in Raleigh city limits and only one in Durham, which is likely connected to the fast-rising cost of homes in those cities.

WRAL TechWire recently cited a new study signaling Raleigh's real estate market will be the third hottest market in the U.S. this year.

Home values are forecast to soar nearly 24% in the capital city, pushing a typical home value to well over $450,000 from the current average price of $391,444, an analysis from real estate company Zillow finds.

That popularity just isn't affordable for the average professional, leading home buyers to look for homes as much as an hour or more away from Raleigh.

It's not just homes in Raleigh and Durham that are out of many price ranges. According to recent data from Apartment List, rent prices in Raleigh and Durham both reached all-time highs in 2021 to $1,508 in Raleigh and $1,365 in Durham.

A household would need to make $60,000 per year to afford most two-bedroom, two-bath apartments in Raleigh, WRAL TechWire reported.

“Apex, Holly Springs and Fuquay Varina are all suburbs of Raleigh-Durham that are growing rapidly," said Jon Enberg, senior general manager of Opendoor in Raleigh. "We’re seeing a lot of construction, new shopping centers, parks and town amenities for young families. Many are moving to the area as first-time homebuyers or young families needing more space and looking for an upgrade."
