JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Moments after he was shot at E-Zee Auto Sales, employee Isai Ntirenganya staggered across busy Cleveland Road where a dental assistant at Lane and Associates Family Dentistry noticed him in the parking lot.

She asked him if he needed help and brought him inside.

Dr. Matthew Miller, a dentist, stabilized the victim before the paramedics arrived.

“I know from just looking at his face that he had a pretty large deformity and swelling there,” Miller said. “The gunshot was somewhere in that area. I located the entry wound to the bullet in the back of the neck, and I did not find an exit wound.

“At this time, we had also started vital signs monitoring and noted that his vital signs weren’t in the best shape,” Miller continued. “We started IV fluids in an attempt to fluid resuscitate him and stabilize his vital signs the best we could to correct his blood loss.”

Marketing employees Kaitlin Painter and Stephanie Riddle said many of their co-workers are in shock.

“There’s still blood on the chair,” Painter said. “That was pretty intense.”

Two masked men came to rob the car dealership, hit the lone employee with a gun and then shot him, according to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses said the suspects left with a woman in a cream-colored Ford Fusion with 30-day license plates.

Ntirenganya's condition is unknown.

Still shaken hours later, E-Zee owner Basel Masri described Ntirenganya as a longtime worker who's like family.

“It’s bad,” Masri said. “I wish they would catch those cowards.”
