One person dead, another injured in shooting after argument at card game

One person was killed and another injured in a shooting early Saturday that resulted from an argument during a card game.

ROWLAND, N.C. — One person was killed and another injured in a shooting early Saturday that resulted from an argument during a card game.

Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to the 1500 block of Purvis Road in Rowland just before 3 a.m. after getting a call that someone had been shot. They found Rodney Lewis, 54, of Rowland, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Jamel R. Hendrix, 24, of Lumberton, was transported to Southeastern Health hospital, where he died of his injuries after being shot.

Officials were still investigating Saturday evening and had not announced if there would be any arrests or suspects.

The case is being investigated by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call (910) 671-3170 or (910) 671-3100.
