RALEIGH, N.C. — Elizabeth Johnson of Wilson County rushed to get her numbers in for the Powerball drawing last Wednesday but missed the cut off time to buy a ticket by one minute. Little did she know that minute was the difference between another losing ticket and a higher tax bracket.

Unbeknownst to Johnson, missing the deadline for the Wednesday Powerball drawing made her eligible for the Saturday drawing. The numbers on her ticket matched all five numbers, winning her $1 million. Her prize doubled to a whopping $2 million when the 2x multiplier was also drawn that night.

Johnson plans to buy a house and take a vacation.

“The kids want to go to Disneyland,” said Johnson. “We’ve never been and now we’ll get to.”
