One man was killed early Thursday when fire tore through a home in Moore County. 

<b>CARTHAGE, N.C.</b> — One man was killed early Thursday when fire tore through a home in Moore County.

Firefighters responding to 409 E. Saunders St. in Carthage at about midnight found a home engulfed in flames. It took crews about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.

When officials searched the home, they found a man dead in a side doorway. Authorities have not released the man's name.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The 12-year-old boy had been required to sleep in a tube-like tent, enclosed by a solid plastic sheet. Upon discovering that the zipper for the tent was broken, the report says, "staff needed a zip tie out of the tool bag."

According to the Sampson County Sheriff's Office, a school resource officer discovered the body of a man inside a vehicle at Hobbton Middle School athletic field. Authorities believe the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
