SELMA, N.C. — The NC State Highway Patrol said a man was killed and a woman and small child were injured in a two-vehicle accident that happened Wednesday just north of Selma in Johnston County.

Troopers told WRAL's John Payne the crash happened just before 2:30 p.m. A black Ford Ranger pickup failed to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a white Dodge minivan. The crash happened at the intersection of Phillips Road and NC Highway 39.

Officials said the man, Atlas Glenn Willoughby, 59, of Kenly, died. Ashley Dawn Creech, 29, of Selma, and her 18-month-old child sustained non-life threatening injuries.

A local resident told Payne the intersection is a dangerous one where other fatal and serious accidents have happened over the years.
