The Fayetteville Police Department is investigating a shooting Saturday evening that left a man dead and a woman injured.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — The Fayetteville Police Department is investigating a shooting Saturday evening that left a man dead and a woman injured.

Fayetteville police said around 6 p.m. officers responded to a shooting near 1900 North Street.

Once on scene, officers found 22-year-old Alonzo Clark with multiple gunshot wounds. Clark was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a woman was also injured in the shooting, though her wounds are said to be non-life-threatening.

WRAL News is working to gather more information.

WRAL News was told that 22 students were on board, ages 5 to 11. Two students were taken to WakeMed for femur fractures and facial lacerations. Six other students were taken to a hospital in Smithfield.

Deputies said they commanded the man to drop the weapon and raise his hands. However, they said the man refused to comply and instead fired two rounds. A deputy fired his gun, hitting the man.
