WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — A motorcyclist was killed at the intersection of Legends and Old Stage roads around 11:30 a.m. Saturday after a high-speed chase with police, authorities said.

Officials said a deputy with the Wake County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle on N.C. Highway 55 near Fuquay-Varina for driving reckless and reaching 80 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The suspect fled north on U.S. Highway 401 and reached speeds in excess of 145 mph, according to authorities.

Officials said the suspect approached Old Stage Road in excess of 100 mph, crossed left to center, and struck a 2008 Chevy Silverado stopped at the intersection of Legends and Old Stage roads. No injuries were sustained to the occupants in the Chevrolet; the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing. No additional information has been released.
