One killed in Fayetteville traffic accident

One person was killed Monday night after two vehicles collided on Stoney Point Road between Braddy Road and Barefoot Road, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A 42-year-old woman was killed Monday night when two vehicles collided on Stoney Point Road in Fayetteville, police said.

The crash happened about 10 p.m. between Braddy and Barefoot roads.

Fayetteville police said Vernita Smith, of Raeford, was driving a 2000 Acura when she crossed the center line and hit a 2012 Dodge Ram driven by Daniel Smith, 40, of Fayetteville.

Vernita Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her car was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Daniel Smith and a passenger in his car were also taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

A portion of Stoney Point Road was closed while investigators cleared the crash.
