CARY, N.C. — One person was killed and another hospitalized in a double shooting in Cary on Wednesday night. On Saturday night, a 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case.

On Saturday, Luis Mario Velasquez-Guevara was arrested by Cary police and charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of felonious assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

Two people were shot at the apartment complex in the 1200 block of Village Greenway off SE Maynard Road around 7 p.m. Police believe everyone involved knew each other.

Town officials said officers found Gilbert Noel Guzman, 34, dead in the parking lot when they arrived. Another person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The complex is near East Cary Middle School and Adams Elementary School. There is no expected impact to the schools.

“We send our deepest sympathies to Mr. Guzman’s family during this unimaginable time of grief. We are hopeful Mr. Velasquez-Guevara’s arrest brings justice for the Guzman family.” said Cary Deputy Chief of Police Shawn Anderson.
