One killed, five injured in Autryville crash

A woman was killed and five people were injured in a two-car crash Monday night on N.C. Highway 24 near Autryville Road, which is between Fayetteville and Clinton.

AUTRYVILLE, N.C. — A woman was killed and five people were injured in a two-car crash Monday night on N.C. Highway 24 near Autryville Road, which is between Fayetteville and Clinton.

A 1995 Honda Civic heading east on Highway 24 ran off the road to the right, over-corrected and traveled left of center, according to troopers. The Civic then crashed head-on into a Pontiac carrying five people.

Beatrice Bailey Newman, 57, a front seat passenger in a Pontiac, died in the crash, troopers said.

Two other people had life-threatening injuries, according to troopers. Their names were not released. One of the people with the most serious injuries was a young male, authorities said.

Charges were pending. No other information was released.
