One dead in south Raleigh crash
One person was killed and three others were injured Friday morning in a single-vehicle wreck off Chapanoke Road in south Raleigh, police said.
Posted — UpdatedLisa Howard Leak, 40, of Peyton Street in Raleigh, was westbound in a 1999 Toyota at shortly after 9 a.m. when she drove off Chapanoke Road, cut through a grassy area and a parking lot and ran over a soccer goal before slamming into a pine tree, according to a police accident report.
The vehicle was going at 35 mph but accelerated and hit the tree at 50 mph, the report states.
Passenger Amy Pauline Chukwu, 59, of Peyton Street, was killed, and Leak and passengers Alexia Shamira Mae Wall, 17, and Erica Jeannette Freeman, 39, were injured.
The report indicates that Leak might have suffered from some sort of medical condition in the crash.
