One dead in Rocky Mount shootings

One man is dead following two shooting incidents in Rocky Mount on Thursday morning.
Officers responded to reports of gunshots on the corner of Paul Street and Cockerel Street at about 1:20 a.m. on Thursday. They found two victims, Antwone Grey, 24, and Tariq Williams, 24, both of Rocky Mount, suffering from injuries.

The shots were reportedly fired after Grey and Williams were involved in an altercation with people they didn’t know.

Grey was sent to Vidant Medical Center, where he died. Williams was treated at UNC Nash General Hospital for minor injuries and released.

In a separate incident, police responded to a shooting in front of 1192 Pinehurst Drive at about 12:40 a.m. Thursday.

Niagra Jones, 18, of Rocky Mount, and Zakey Stevenson, 18, were standing in the front yard when they were reportedly approached by three men. Both were shot.

Jones was sent to Vidant Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition. Stevenson was treated for minor injuries at UNC Nash General Hospital and has been released.

Rocky Mount police say that the two shootings are unrelated.
