Durham is hosting a mass mask giveaway for one day only -- on Friday, Feb. 11, county libraries will be giving away 10 free KN95 masks per household.

The masks can be picked up at any library in Durham at either the COVID-19 screening stations or at the library front desk. A list of libraries and hours can be found online.

Free mask giveaways have been popular in recent weeks after national health experts recommended N95 and KN95 masks over basic cloth face coverings.

Durham gave out over 30,000 N95 masks in a week, when lines formed outside libraries and the supply ran out in just two days.

Chatham County has also restocked its mask supply and is ready to give out free N95 masks on Friday. The masks will be available at several locations, including the Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro, the Wren Memorial Library in Siler City and the Goldston Library.

All of those locations open at 9 a.m.

The Moncure Fire Department, which opens at 8 a.m., is also a distribution site. Twenty masks will be available per household.

Orange County is also giving away masks at the public library in Hillsborough and the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service in Carrboro. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the Carrboro location is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
