Hillsborough, N.C. — It's big, ugly and odd. "It's an eyesore," says Glenn Edwards. An old propane tank sat near the end of the driveway of his Hillsborough home for five months.
"I have received a threat from a neighbor," said Edwards. "My neighbor threatened to paint it yellow," Edwards quipped.
But his sense of humor about the yellow-stained, submarine-looking tank is running out.
The tank was dug up last August when Edwards changed propane companies. He had been leasing it from Foust Fuels in Mebane, so they had to pick it up. In an email dated Aug. 22, 2019, Foust promised they would pick up the tank in two or three days.
"It's a 500-gallon tank,“ said Edwards. “I was told it is 65% full, which means 300-some gallons of liquid propane are in the tank. In my view that's a safety issue. I think it's time for them to come and get it."
After multiple empty assurances from Foust that it would be picked up "next week," a frustrated Edwards contacted 5 On Your Side.
5 On Your Side called Foust and their parent company, AmeriGas. AmeriGas spokeswoman Justine Staub apologized in an email, admitting they failed with this case. She promised immediate pickup and followed through.
Only hours after 5 On your Side left Edwards' home, the tank was removed. Pick-up fees were waived. Foust promised to credit Edwards for the remaining propane.
Edwards emailed a photo. He was thrilled to come home to a patch of flattened leaves, saying, "Thank you for getting such quick action."
