Officials seek help identifying man hit, killed by car in Johnston County on US-70

North Carolina Highway Patrol is seeking the public's help in identifying a man who was hit and killed by a driver on US Highway 70 just after 9 p.m. on Friday.

CLAYTON, N.C. — North Carolina Highway Patrol is seeking the public's help in identifying a man who was hit and killed by a driver on US Highway 70 just after 9 p.m. on Friday.

Daonte Gardner, from Kinston, was driving a 2015 Kia Soul when he hit a man walking in the far left lane of the highway.

Officials say they are not planning to bring charges against Gardner.

The man died after being hit by Gardner. Officials have not yet found the name of the person hit by the driver.

The man is Black, in his mid-20's to early 30's. Officials believe he goes by the nickname "Trap" and has "Trap" tattooed on his left arm. When the man died, he had long, braided hair, a goatee, was wearing white shorts and flip-flops.

If anyone has information that they believe is relevant to identifying the man who was hit by Gardner, call NC Highway patrol at *HP, or *47.
