ROSEBORO, N.C. — Deputies in Sampson County are working to track down the person who shot and killed a man at a gas station. They were called to the Sunoco on Highway 24 in Roseboro just before 9 p.m. on Thursday.

According to officials, Damian Pittman, 31, of 78 Old Brick Mill Rd. in Roseboro, was parked by a pump and sitting in the driver’s seat when someone opened fire, killing him.

One of the bullets was still in the pump. Bullet holes could also be seen in Pittman's passenger door, and his car's back window was shot out. At least two bullets hit store, just missing the clerk inside.

A surveillance video from the store shows a man pull a gun and start shooting.

Sheriff Jimmy Thornton said a second man also was shot and taken to Sampson Regional. He said he is hoping the surveillance video will help them catch up with the person or group of people responsible.

Pittman’s sister said the victim, 31-year-old Damien Pittman, had just gotten engaged last week — and left behind a one-year-old child.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone having information is encouraged to contact investigators at 910-592-4141.
