CLINTON, N.C. — Authorities said they caught a supervisor trying to bring marijuana and cell phones into a Sampson County prison facility on Friday afternoon.

Department of Public Safety officials said Christopher Bishop tried to bring 59 grams of marijuana, two cell phones and tobacco into the Sampson Correctional Institution laundry facility around 3 p.m. The contraband was found in a duffel bag, DPS said.

Bishop, 42, is a second-shift supervisor at the laundry facility, authorities said. He works for Correction Enterprises, an organization that works with inmates to staff DPS facilities. He has been on the job for three and a half years but was placed on investigatory leave while authorities investigate.

Police charged Bishop with providing a phone to an inmate and providing contraband to an inmate, according to DPS.
