RALEIGH, N.C. — An inmate in the Wake County Detention Center died suddenly on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

Aakim Hose Franklin was experiencing dizziness and breathing problems, and detention officers entered his cell and found him in medical distress.

Officials transported Franklin to the center's medical clinic, where "life-saving measures continued, until first responders could arrive."

The sheriff's office said in a statement that, even though they provided immediate medical care to Franklin, he still died.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office asked for the State Medical Examiner's Office to investigate how Franklin died.
