DURHAM, N.C. — A police officer was injured Wednesday morning when his patrol car was rear-ended, police said.

Officer C.E. Heim was southbound on Miami Boulevard near N.C. Highway 54 when he slowed for traffic and his cruiser was hit from behind by a 1999 Honda Accord, police said.

Heim was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Satya-Pharni Narra, of Durham, the driver of the Accord, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
