FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An off-duty police officer at the Fayetteville Veterans Affairs Medical Center was cited Monday for sexual battery.

The criminal summons for Darian Burden, 41, of the 100 block of Toot-Toot Street in St. Pauls, was issued by a Cumberland County magistrate since it is a misdemeanor, according to a release from the Fayetteville Police Department.

Burden was off-duty when he met a woman Friday night and identified himself as a police officer before touching her inappropriately, police said.

Burden was summoned to appear in Cumberland County court June 28.
