We can’t wait for our event on Sunday, March 1 with Erik Larson for his new book! Events coordinator René says: “I am a slow reader, but finished this book in four days because it is so engaging. Larson brings in many of the characters surrounding Churchill during his first year as prime minister: his family, his secretary, his personal guard, friends, colleagues. He presents them as real people with much information based on their personal diaries. He also brings in the ordinary person and their reactions and thoughts. To give us a complete picture, he gives us a glimpse into the personalities of the four top leaders of the Third Reich. I felt as if I were there and could well imagine what life was like during that pivotal period in history.”
Apeirogon: A Novel By Colum McCann

It’s been nothing but rave reviews for National Book Award winner Colum McCann’s latest novel, Apeirogon. From his Kirkus starred review: “McCann’s latest novel is a soaring, ambitious triumph: It tells the stories of Rami and Bassam, both based on real people, their daughters, their land, and much else, besides. The novel is splintered into short, numbered segments that count up to 500 before crawling back down to 1. The effect is kaleidoscopic. McCann wheels outward in a widening circuit, not unlike the birds that form a central metaphor that recurs throughout the book. Some segments describe Israeli-Palestinian politics; others are composed of photographs; still others are made up entirely of quotes from figures as disparate as Picasso and Mahmoud Darwish. The result is a sprawling masterpiece …. Apeirogon might be McCann’s finest yet.”
Signed copies of Apeirogon: A Novel are available now for purchase at Quail Ridge Books.
Cosmos: Possible Worlds By Ann Druyan
{{a href="external_link-18974859"}}Cosmos: Possible Worlds{{/a}} by Ann Druyan
Based on National Geographic's television series, this groundbreaking and visually stunning book explores how science and civilization grew up together. From the emergence of life at deep-sea vents to solar-powered starships sailing through the galaxy, from the Big Bang to the intricacies of intelligence in many life forms, Ann Druyan documents where humanity has been and where it is going, using her unique gift of bringing complex scientific concepts to life. With evocative photographs and vivid illustrations, she recounts momentous discoveries, from the Voyager missions (in which she and her husband, Carl Sagan, participated) to Cassini-Huygens's recent insights into Saturn's moons. This sequel to Sagan's masterpiece explains how we humans can glean a new understanding of consciousness here on Earth and out in the cosmos—again reminding us that our planet is a pale blue dot in an immense universe of possibility.
Oona Out of Order: A Novel By Margarita Montimore
{{a href="external_link-18974861"}}Oona Out of Order{{/a}} by Margarita Montimore
If you’re looking for something a little more fun but still literary, Oona Out of Order might be just what you need. A starred Library Journal review tells us: “On her birthday at midnight on New Year’s Eve 1982, Oona is chronologically 19, but in 2015. Her body is 51, and she has no idea what has happened in her life up to that point. Oona makes this jump on her birthday every year, each time ending up in an out-of-order new year. The dichotomy of her mind and body not matching creates dissonance for Oona. Montimore’s pacing and cadence ebb and flow with her protagonist’s emotions, delivering a compelling page-turner. Oona experiences not only the difficulty of maintaining relationships and the devastation of missed opportunities when living life out of order, but also the joy of truly being in the moment. Montimore delivers a rock-and-roll love letter to 1980s–90s New York City as Oona discovers her true self through a lifetime of music and pop culture.”
