North Carolina sending 50,000 cards to service members this holiday season
North Carolinians created more than 10,000 holiday cards to be mailed to servicemen and servicewomen this month.
Posted — UpdatedAccording to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, November is National Veterans and Military Families Month, and it's a great time to send holiday cards to servicemen and servicewomen for the holiday season.
More than 10,000 cards had been counted by the NCDPI. Volunteers estimated they may exceed 20,000, but it ended up being 30-times higher.
Thanks to your help, state education officials said on Thanksgiving that over 50,000 holiday cards were collected for service members.
In the coming days, the cards will be sent to the Pentagon and distributed to service members who can't make it home for the holidays.
The deadline to send holiday cards (Nov. 15) has already passed, but the community can send cards to the troops all year.

Cards can be hand delivered to the Department of Public Instruction, located at 301 N. Wilmington St. in Raleigh.
Some guidelines include:
- Do not use an envelope. If you use an envelope, don't seal it.
- Sign your first name only and list your town and/or school.
