CARY, N.C. — Take a sneak peek at a new mural being painted over a greenway tunnel in Cary.

Muralist Lisa Gaither provided a behind-the-scenes glance at partially-finished mural. Half of the wall is brightly-colored; the other half still shows pencil sketches awaiting paint.

Each side of the tunnel will reveal a different style of art – as if walking through the tunnel takes you out in another world.

The east wall is inspired by flora and fauna found along Cary's very own greenways, with emphasis on native flowers found along the White Oak Creek Greenway segment.

The eastern wall is more “realistic painting style,” with an out of focus background.

The western wall is "more of a 'graphic illustration' of similar flora and fauna, along with silhouette of biker and runners and the meandering reproduction of the White Oak Creek or greenway pattern weaving in the background," according to the Town of Cary website.

The western side is intentionally bolder and more graphic in contrast to the more representational painting style of the east.

"Something for everyone!" said the town website.

You likely drive past her murals every day

Mural artist Lisa Gaither is known for creating vibrant and unique murals around the Triangle.

Her colorful Instagram features some of her well-known pieces – murals many of us drive past every day.

She's responsible for the bold, block-color wall in downtown Raleigh, which is one of the most Instagram-worthy spots in town.

She even did a chalk mural for healthcare workers to pose with, featuring a red superhero cape.

She is also known for painting or chalking 3D, interactive murals. Many of her pieces pop up all across Instagram, as some of the most Insta-worthy spots in the Triangle area.

Gaither said the tunnel mural will be completed in a few weeks – just in time for those springtime walks down the Cary greenway. Perhaps this tunnel will become the next hotspot for Instagram photos – or just a beautiful reflection of North Carolina flora and fauna, on a trail that runs from Maine all the way down to Florida.
