FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Shattered glass spread across Slocomb Road in Cumberland County where a school bus tipped and flipped with 23 students on board.

The bus was bound for Pine Forest High School when the driver got a bit too close to a ditch and the bus overturned.

There were 24 students, en route to Pine Forest High School, on board the bus when it rolled over near the intersection of Slocomb Road and Ramsey Street outside of Fayetteville.

While no one was seriously injured, the images of the crash aftermath were enough to shake some parents.

"It could have been any one of our students," said Janese Henry. "I have a student myself who goes to that school. Although she does not ride the bus in the morning, she sometimes catches it home."

Many parents told WRAL News that they learned of the crash through social media.

"I know that was the worst fear that was sinking into every parent's heart when they saw that," said Michele Ornelas.

"Any time you see anything happen, any kind of tragedy in the school system, it really tugs on your heart strings," Henry said.

The State Highway Patrol was investigating the crash, and no charges have yet been filed. Troopers told WRAL News they did not suspect that other factors – speed, a medical emergency or distracted driving – were behind the crash.
