WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A Thursday night fire at a Wake Forest retirement community damaged several apartments but resulted in no injuries, authorities said.

The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. at The Lodge at Wake Forest, at 1151 S. Main St. The fire started on the patio of one unit, but sprinklers kept it from spreading, authorities said.

Six to nine other units sustained smoke damage.

The fire prompted some evacuations, and some residents moved to a nearby church.

EMS evaluated some residents, but no one was taken to a hospital.

Wake Forest officials said different accommodations will be found for the affected residents, and all other residents were allowed to return to their units.

Authorities haven't determined the cause of the fire.

South Main Street/U.S. Highway 1A was closed from Dr. Calvin Jones Highway/N.C. Highway 98 to Cimarron Parkway while firefighters responded to the fire.
