No single character or theme has emerged in the survey of top Halloween costume choices by the National Retail Federation. Instead, the classics – witches, vampires and pirates – top the list for adults who plan to dress up this Halloween. 

Americans will also spend more than $4 million on costumes for pets this year, the most popular being a pumpkin.
