Newton Grove police officer dies in accident in Sampson County
A Newton Grove police officer is dead after an accident on Saturday in Sampson County.
Posted — UpdatedThe officer, 26-year-old Brent Nelson Hall, was driving a 2018 Dodge Charger northbound on Highway 701 at a high rate of speed. According to investigators, he then ran off the road to the left and struck the curb. The vehicle then went airborne, struck two light poles and landed on Isaac Weeks Rd.
Police Chief Greg Warren issued the following statement:
"Please pray for our Newton Grove Police Department, the town of Newton Grove, and their families. We have lost one of our officers tonight in an accident. Out of respect for the officer’s family, we will not be announcing the officer’s name at this time."
The officer was reporting for duty to Newton Grove Police Department. The State Highway Patrol says it is not sure why the officer was speeding. They also say that there was no ejection from the vehicle and the officer was not restrained by a seatbelt.
The cause of crash was ruled as speeding.
