Hello, everyone. I'm meteorologist, Mike Mays in the W R L Severe Weather center with a forecast update for this Friday night. Had a warm day today. 84 was the high, a warmer day is expected tomorrow. And like most of the days this week as we start our Saturday, some will see some low clouds. Seven AM. We're looking at mostly cloudy skies 61 by 9 70 by 11 AM about 79 we're expecting the warmest day of the year so far here in the triangle, we're forecasting 89 for the high, the previous warmest 87 that happened on May 9th. So it's a great day on the lake tomorrow because the majority of the day, if not all of the day for most of you will end up being dry 89 by three and four o'clock, the humidity will be in check won't be too bad. By 6789 o'clock, we're watching for showers and storms that I think primarily will be north and west of Raleigh. So if you're watching from Rocky Mount at Wilson and Goldsboro and Clinton and Fayetteville, you probably won't see any rain, you'll just enjoy a dry, very warm day and rainfall totals for the day tomorrow, kind of give away where we'll see the rain pretty much in a corridor west of Raleigh over toward Alas County, Guilford County. The sand hills over in our eastern counties along the east of I 95 probably won't see any rain for the day tomorrow. And then on Sunday looks dry. So for the day tomorrow, 89 in Raleigh, 90 in Fayetteville, this is the time stamp for about four o'clock in the afternoon. But by 78 and nine o'clock, what you see in southern Virginia will move through our western counties. So be aware if you're going to the lake tomorrow, you got to watch the weather closely, especially for lightning, the storms could come up quick. But again, in our eastern counties probably won't see a whole lot. And then for the day on Sunday, it's cooler. It's less humid. It's breezy, 77 in Raleigh, 79 in Fayetteville. And then on Monday, I have a reversal wind direction coming in from the southwest. So it's warmer. 84 in Raleigh, 85 in Fayetteville. And by Tuesday we warm up even more. You'll see that in the seven day forecast coming up. So overnight clouds toward day break anywhere from 55 at Roxboro to 61 in Raleigh, 64 at Fayetteville. And then tomorrow, potentially the hottest day of the year so far with 89 in Raleigh. 90 in Fayetteville. The warmest so far for Fayetteville was on May 9th. It was 91 88 in Goldsboro. 87 in Rocky map. During the evening, we'll start to see those showers and storms move into the western part of the viewing area warmer for Monday, especially Tuesday. But once the cold front passes on Tuesday, it's less humid. It's cooler. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning. Lows back in the fifties. That's our forecast update for this Friday night. President Joe Biden addresses the nation from the Oval Office after Congress voted to cut spending and extend the debt ceiling for two years.

<p>Americans when I ran for president, I was told the days of bipartisanship are over and the Democrats and Republicans can no longer work together. But I refuse to believe that because America can never give into that way of thinking. Look, the only way American democracy can function is through compromise and consensus. And that's what I work to do as your president, you know, to forge bipartisan agreement where it's possible and where it's needed. I've signed more than 350 bipartisan laws thus far, almost 2.5 years, including the historic law that rebuilding America so that we can rank number one in the world in infrastructure instead of where we're ranked now number 13 in the world, another historic law, rebuilding our manufacturing base. So that will lead the world once again in making semiconductor chips so much more and so so many more and so many more sophisticated ones. And now a bipartisan budget agreement. This is vital because it's because it's essential to the progress we made over the last few years is keeping full faith and credit of the United States of America and passing a budget that continues to grow our economy and reflects our values as a nation. That's why I'm speaking tonight to report on the crisis of verdict and what we're doing to protect America's future. Passing this budget agreement was critical. The stakes could not have been higher if we had failed to reach an agreement on the budget. There were extreme voices threatening to take America for the first time in our 247 year history and to default on our national debt, nothing, nothing would have been more irresponsible. Nothing would have been more catastrophic. Our economy would have been thrown into a recession. Retirement accounts for millions of Americans would have been decimated. Eight million Americans would have lost their jobs. Default would have been have destroyed our nation's credit rating which would have made everything from mortgages to car loans, to funding for the government much more expensive. And it would have taken years to climb out of that hole. And America standing as the most trusted, reliable financial partner in the world would have been shattered. So it was critical to reach an agreement and it's very good news for the American people. No one got everything they want but the American people got what they needed. We averted an economic crisis, an economic collapse. We're cutting spending and bringing the deficits down. At the same time. We're protecting important priorities from social security to Medicare, to Medicaid, to veterans, to our transformational investments in infrastructure. And clean energy. I want to commend Senator Speaker mccarthy, you know, uh he and I uh we and our teams, we were able to get along and get things done. We were straightforward with one another. Completely honest with one another, respectful with one another. Both sides operated in good faith. Both sides kept their word. And I also want to commend other congressional leaders, house minority leader, Jeffries, Senate majority leader Schumer Senate, minority leader mcconnell, they acted responsibly and put the good of the country ahead of politics. The final vote in both chambers was overwhelming. Far more bipartisan than anyone thought was possible. So I want to thank the members of Congress who voted to pass this agreement, which I'm gonna sign tomorrow and become the law. So here's what the deal does. First, it cuts spending and over the next 10 years, the deficit will be cut by more than $1 trillion and that will be on top of the record 1.7 trillion $1.7 trillion. I already cut the deficit in my first two years in office and it's clear we're all in a much more fiscally responsible course than the one I inherited when I took office. Four years ago, when I came to office, the deficit had increased every year, the previous four years and nearly $8 trillion were added to the national debt in the last administration. And now we're turning things around and that's good for America. You know, my dad used to have an expression. He said, Joey, don't tell me what you value, show me your budget. I'll tell you what you value. That's at the heart of this debate. What do we value protecting seniors? You may remember during my State of the Union address, there was, there was a spirit exchange between me and a few Republicans spontaneously occurring on the floor of the House of Representatives. I was pointing out that for years, some of them were putting forward proposals to cut Social Security Medicare and some of them that night took exception and they said very loudly that that wasn't true. So I asked them on the floor at that night, I said, ask them a simple question. Will you agree not to cut social security not to cut Medicare? Would they agree to protect these essential programs? A lifeline for millions of Americans programs that these Americans have been paying into every single paycheck they've earned since they started working. And that provides so much peace of mind with the bright lights and cameras on those few Republicans who were protesting, they agreed, they said they wouldn't cut it. That's how we protected Social Security Medicare from the beginning and from a being cut period, health care was another priority for me. A top priority. I made it clear from the outset, I would not agree to any cuts in Medicaid, another essential lifeline for millions of Americans, including Children in poverty, the elderly, in nursing homes and Americans living with disabilities. The original House Republican proposal would have cut health care for up to 21 million Americans on Medicaid. And I said no, and Medicare is protected and so are millions of people most in need. Look, I've long believed that the only one truly sacred obligation that the government has is to prepare those we send into harm's way and care for them and their families when they come home and when they don't come home, that's why my last budget provided va hospitals with additional funding for more doctors, nurses and equipment to accommodate the needs of veterans and more appointments. The House Republican plan would have met 30 fewer million va health care visits for our veterans. We didn't let that happen. In addition, this bill fully funds the bipartisan Pact Act. The most significant law in decades for veterans exposed to toxic burn pits and for their families expands access to those veterans and their families, to health care and to disability benefits. Look, we're investing in America in our people and in our future, we've created over 13 million new jobs. Nearly 800,000 manufacturing jobs. Where is it written? And America can't lead the world again. In manufacturing, unemployment is at 3.7% more Americans are working today than ever in the history of this country. And inflation has dropped 10 straight months in a row. In this debate, I refused to put what was responsible for all this economic progress on the chopping block. This bipartisan agreement protects the law that will help us build the best infrastructure in the world, fully protects the Chips and Science Act, which is going to bring key parts of our supply chain to America. So we don't have to rely on others like semiconductors, those tiny computer chips smaller than the tip of your finger that affect nearly everything we rely on from cell phones to having building automobiles, to the most sophisticated weapon systems. And so much more, we protected another law that I passed and signed last year that finally beat Big Pharma, which I've been trying to do for over 30 years. It finally gives Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices just like the VA has been able to do for veterans. This law has already dramatically cut the cost of insulin for seniors from as much as $400 a month to just $35 a month for insulin negotiating lower drug prices, not only saves seniors a lot of money, it saves the country, a lot of money, 100 and $60 billion. That's not having to be paid out because we're drug prices are more rational. We pay the highest drug prices of any industrial nation in the world. And it's just the beginning, you know, we also protected the most significant breakthrough ever ever in dealing with the existential threat of climate change. Today, new wind and solar power is cheaper than fossil fuel since I've been in office, clean energy and advanced manufacturing have brought in $470 billion in private investment that's going to create thousands of jobs, good paying jobs all across this country and help the environment. At the same time. Remember at the beginning of this debate, some of our Republican colleagues are determined to get the clean energy investments. I said, no, we kept them all and there's more and there's so much more to do. We're going to do even more to reduce the deficit. We need to control spending if we're going to do that. But we also have to raise revenue and go after tax cheats and make sure everybody is paying their fair share. No one, I promise no one making more less than $400,000 a year will pay a penny more in federal taxes. But like most of you at home, I know the federal tax system isn't fair. That's why I kept my commitment again, that no one earning less than $400,000 a year will pay a penny more in federal taxes. That's why last year I secured more funding to go more IRS funding to go after wealthy tax cheats the nonpartisan congressional budget office and it is nonpartisan says that this bill will bring in 100 and $50 billion and other outside experts expect that it would save as much as $400 billion because it's forcing people to pay their fair share. Republicans may not like it, but I'm gonna make sure the wealthy pay their fair share. I'm also proposed closing over a dozen special interest tax loopholes for big oil crypto traders, hedge fund billionaires saving taxpayers billions of dollars. Repub Republicans defended every single one of these special interest loopholes, every single one, but I'm going to be coming back and with your help, I'm going to win right now. Catch this right now. The average billionaire in America pays just 8% in federal taxes. 8% teachers and firefighters pay more than that. That's why I proposed a minimum tax for billionaires. Republicans are against it, but I'm gonna keep fighting for it. No billionaire should pay less in federal taxes than the teacher or firefighter. Look, let me close with this. I know bipartisanship is hard and unity is hard, but we can never stop trying because in moments like this one, the ones we just faced where the American economy and the world economy is at risk of collapsing. There's no other way, no matter how tough our politics gets. We see each other as not as adversaries, but as fellow Americans treat each other with dignity and respect to join forces as Americans to stop shouting lower the temperature and work together to pursue progress, secure prosperity and keep the promise of America for everybody. As I've said, my inaugural address without unity, there is no peace, only bitterness and, and fury and we can never become that country. I can honestly say I can honestly say to you tonight that I've never been more optimistic about America's future. We just need to remember who we are. We are the United States of America and there's nothing, nothing we can't do when we do it together. So, thank you all for listening, taking the time tonight to listen to me. Um, but what we've just done there today, regardless of whether we went through or not, we put in a performance today, not just for ourselves, not just for our family who are watching back home, but for the West Ham fans, the US West Ham fan, the American West Ham fans that have traveled and some of the British fans that are here as well who have traveled, you know, we put in a great shift for them today and it was only right that we showed resilience because to deal with stuff that happened yesterday, you have to show resilience and you have to show to go, you know, and that's what we've done. We've dealt with it off the pitch and we've dealt on the pitch. There's no bigger statement than that. Sorry, a quick one about the format itself. Um I think that was one of the big things that was said yesterday, you know, um you may not know what it feels like because of the color of your skin. I know what it feels like. But if you're open minded enough, you can understand just by the way I speak to you about it the way I, I answer your questions, you are able to try and understand the feeling, you know, and show empathy to it. Um But as I said, we're a resilient bunch of players who because of the right outcome and that's solely down to West Ham, our staff here and T S T is an organization that the right outcome prevailed and we was able to go and do the business on the pitch. And so that although the topic of conversation is bigger than football, football is still the winner. So I was just gonna say you a special mention to obviously to mo as well. They, they were, they were brilliant as well and obviously we joined in with the knee. Um And even afterwards, you know, special, special mention to them, I think they handled everything as well really well. And every club that was here that in this tournament, we're willing to, to roll with whatever we was going to do, you know, if we weren't going to play no more, there was support there from every single football club that is here, that is here in this tournament and that just shows you the solidarity and what solidarity can do. Was there any outreach from, from the Dallas Club after the incident happened? Pardon? Was there any outreach from, from Dallas, you know, players or representatives other than the player in question? Um I think they, they, I think they wanted to have a, a conversation. Um but, you know, I think it was only right that the powers that be, which is T S T they deal with it, you know, and it gets dealt with in the right way, I think to counteract something, there has to be deterrents, you know, and T S T have sent out a strong message that any form of discrimination, racism and other forms of discrimination is not tolerated in a tournament like this. And because of the, the repercussions of what's happened to Dallas, I hope people next year understand and realize the the repercussions of, of, of saying such things. Um And I hope he is home last question here. I think you mentioned that S T is very least can take notice of what the sort of decision that S T made. We saw how well was handled the finish junior incident. Many incidents actually is football at the highest level closer to bridging that gap or be further behind in terms of finding solutions to racism. I think just the fact that you mentioned what happened with Venus Junior tells you that we're so far away from it. Um But we won't stop fighting, we won't stop fighting. But the most important thing I think the message is it's just not ethnic people's fight, it's everybody's fight. You need to speak about it. The same way I speak about it, the same way my teammates speak about it. That's one thing that we had yesterday. It wasn't just black players that were talking about it. It was players who were white like Java Elliott Ward, Jimmy Walker coming forward and speaking before, before me, before Colin, you know, that's very, very important, you know, because when somebody of, of white heritage hears somebody of my heritage speak of it. It's almost like it's a broken record. We've heard it before. But when you hear it from somebody who looks like you, it makes you take note. So I think everybody needs to have come together and fight as a collective. conscientious objector was drafted and his chaplain and his chain of command helped him work through it So that on that fateful day in World War one at a fateful moment he carried the day and won the medal of honor First Sergeant Funk who won the silver Star Adi Day the distinguished service cross in Operation Market Garden and ultimately the medal of honor during the Battle of Bulge And of course our current medal of honor winners that have received the medal of honor While most of you have been in service Tom Payne Matt Williams Robert Miller whose mom is right behind us  Some of you drove Last night we started to ensure that every day we live up to that solemn move to always remember and honor our fallen and their families to repay a gold star mother who made us better We started a tradition called the Sunset Liberty March It is a memorial a modeled after the sunset March in N we the citizens of that nation started over 3152 days ago A tradition where its sunset they honor the 48 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division who gave their lives for the liberty of that town Last night we made that 1st march We rendered honors to all the heroes from Fort Bragg and their Fort Bragg's renaming ceremony is taking place Thursday evening with a half-mile Sunset Liberty March, located at Honeycutt and Liberty Trail (formerly Bragg Boulevard). The Sunset Liberty March honors the legacy of Liberty built by the men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while assigned to this installation. 

The military, the military was part of it. The community was given the mission to, to redesign this name to make it so that this was a better for it and that we were better. That was the mission and the community got together and uh CS M England and General mcneil over here and a number of you out here were part of that to change and make this installation better. And as they went through the process, uh many, many names were considered Sergeant Alvin York from the 82nd. Uh If, if, if you ever think of s Sergeant Alvin York in his story, um he had problems with alcohol. He got better. He became a devout Christian. He was a conscientious objector, his chaplain and his chain of command worked him through that. So that on decisive day at a decisive time, he won the medal of honor. And after that, Omar Bradley brought him back when he was the eight. He's Omar Bradley is actually the first uh 82nd Airborne Division commander and he brought him back. And there's a famous speech called valor indoors. Alvin York gave to the 82nd Airborne Division and talked about what they needed to do. A man who contributed Shear and Gordon asked several times to go in to save their down crew, their down pilots and crew. Everybody knew they were going to die. Everybody. And finally they allowed them to go. They both gave their lives. Won the medal of honor, Roy Benavides, Rob Miller, specialist Elliott. Who are you gonna pick? There's nobody that you could pick that can talk about the culture and what this installation is. That's why nobody could come up with it. And a gold star mom in that meeting ultimately said, we can't pick anybody, whoever we pick will leave so many other people behind and don't forget people to come. You will leave behind, not only at that point but people to come, you will leave them behind. And she actually made us think about it and I wasn't present but many people here were, she actually raised our, she raised our consciousness and said, it's not about a person, it's about a culture, it's about a community. And she said it's my son gave his life for liberty. And if you think about it, she made us talk about the right things, not about organizations, not about what community they came from, but about what we're about what people from this post go and do liberty. And if you thought about it, that gold star mom had the intestinal fortitude and the guts to rise above it it wasn't about anything else. It was about what was right and she had the guts to do that. So what this walk is about is paying back to her to pay him back to this community. The roots of this walk are from Ngan. OK. Uh The five oh four crossed the Wall River and gave liberty to the town of Ngan when they built a bridge over the n uh over the river there, the Wall River, they put in 48 lights for the 48 paratroopers who gave their life to give them their liberty and they did it on their own. And the veterans of nine Megan every night for the last 3000, 152 nights have never failed to come out and honor those 48 paratroopers. And that's where this idea comes from. They've never failed. Somebody has been here every night because they know what the cost of liberty is. That's why we had to raise our game and match what members of this community came up with. That's what this is about. I'm sure all of you feel the same way on Memorial Day. I always feel a little hollow. We always say we're going to remember every day. But I know I don't, this is about our ability to remember every day and all these things are coming together and it goes back to the mission that this community was given to make this better. That's our nation. That's what this is all about. This is a very, very simple process that we will do. It's modeled after the one in nine Megan. We all line up on the first day. Everyone who showed up today, you're the veteran of the day. Everyone is going forward. There will be one veteran of the day and they will honor those members from this installation who gave their lives on that day. And anyone else who you want to honor, you will receive a certificate that says you are the veteran of the day and you marched, representing their sons every day. You can go on to a website. We'll talk all about that stuff. We asked the team to build this. They did remarkable. They built this in about three weeks. This is not what it's gonna be, this is gonna become something else. We already have the plans, all that other stuff that will all work out. But what we do tonight will be what we do every day. And that's what it's about about making this community, this post, the people, the people who gave everything, the families who gave everything better. And that's what this is all about. So, thank you all very much for coming out again and about at exactly 2023 we'll step off, we'll walk up to the far end, uh myself and the CS M and a few others will walk to the far side. We'll salute the flag and we'll walk back a very simple ceremony to honor their sons and everybody else. So again, thank you all for coming up. Do that. Yeah, the thank you ladies think. Neighbors in Columbia, South Carolina, continue to mourn the shooting death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton.



A drill of empty packaged water will show you where Cyrus was running from to where he was shot in the back. It was heartbreaking 16 year old Kevin Snyder was one of many adding flowers to a growing makeshift memorial for Cyrus Snyder saying this incident hits close to home. It really could have been me. It could have been anybody. Leon lot said it best that you know, a bottle of water should not have to take a person's life, especially a 14 year old in our community, a community now doing what they can to come together. But also outraged. We already have one incident of a store owner. Then the city and law officials need to do whatever they can to investigate that individual and make sure that it doesn't happen. John Tyler is a community activist. He's referring to incidents like this caught on camera where the gas station owner, Rick Chow appears to be fighting another young customer with this being not only his first but his third infraction as a store owner, me as an activist and a citizen want to know why wasn't he stopped the second time district Councilwoman Gretchen Baron also coming to the gas station and memorial saying the community just needs to support Cyrus's family for now. They don't have their child. That that's heartbreaking to me that they don't have their child. So I want us to be able to really wrap our arms around this family first and allow them to heal. And also asking for a stop to the vandalism of the now boarded up convenience store after a night of looting, the sheriff now putting extra patrol there. But if we got deputies here watching this building, then they're not doing their job on the street. And now we're using resources that were not intended for this project.
