Legislative leadership looks familiar

House and Senate members caucused Wednesday to nominate lawmakers for the top posts.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Democrats will stay in the driver's seat in the upcoming legislative session.

House and Senate members caucused Wednesday to nominate lawmakers for the top posts.

As a result, Joe Hackney will return for a second term as speaker of the house. William Wainwright was selected as speaker pro tem. House Majority Leader Hugh Holliman will return in that role.

In the Senate, Marc Basnight will continue as president pro tem and Tony Rand will return as majority leader. 

The General Assembly begins its 2009 session on Jan. 28.
