A North Carolina resident pleaded guilty to a charge after admitting to unlawfully killing an alligator, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said.
Authorities found a 12-foot alligator dead in March along Highway 264 in Dare County.

A necropsy conducted by a biologist of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission found that the 50-year-old gator was shot several times.
In May, a North Carolina resident pleaded guilty to unlawfully taking an American alligator. The person was sentenced to pay $2,283 in fines and replacement costs, required to complete 200 hours of community service and had to forfeit the gun used in the crime.
Law enforcement officers found the gun used after the suspect was caught carrying it concealed without a permit on the same day the gator was shot, according to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
