Dana Cope, the executive director of the State Employees Association of North Carolina, has filed for bankruptcy.

The Chapter 13 filing lists $509,000 in assets and $538,000 in liabilities, including several large credit card balances.

Cope makes about $97,000 in his role leading SEANC, according to the filing. His wife, Melinda, is an attorney who isn't part of the bankruptcy filing.

Chapter 13 bankruptcy involves restructuring debts to allow someone to use whatever income he or she may have in the future to pay off creditors.
