GOP lawmakers plan to hit the road starting this week for a statewide tour to get public feedback on scrapping outdated or ineffective state rules and regulations.

Sens. Harry Brown, R-Jones, and David Rouzer, R-Johnston, and Reps. Marilyn Avila, R-Wake, and Pat McElraft, R-Carteret, chair the Joint Committee on Regulatory Reform, which is reviewing hundreds of regulations to draw up a list for elimination.

The committee already has a website that will eventually include a tool for people to submit rules they want off the books, and an e-mail address at regreform@ncleg.net for public comments.

The statewide "listening tour" starts Friday afternoon in Wilmington. Other meetings will be held on March 21 in Charlotte, March 28 in Jamestown, April 4 in Greenville, April 15 in Flat Rock and April 21 in Raleigh.
