Mint Hill police said the two officers shot on Friday have been released from the hospital.

The officers were initially called to a child custody exchange at an Edible Arrangements store on Matthews-Mint Hill Road when a man pulled out a gun and a shootout ensued.

Officials said the two officers were both struck above the neck during the incident, but have since been released from the hospital and are now at home and recovering. Their names have not been released.

The man accused of shooting both officers has been identified as 36-year-old Tjamel Ali Hamlin II. He died at the scene.

Police said a gun was recovered at the scene. Their investigation is still ongoing.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation will also conduct an investigation into the shooting.
