Greensboro aims to provide permanent housing for those experiencing homelessness

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Greensboro officials want to end the Doorway Project, a temporary housing community that provides shelter and case management services to individuals experiencing homelessness. 

Instead of the temporary solution, the city wants to strive towards long-term stability and permanent housing options. 

The city plans to establish two cooling and overnight shelter sites to prevent heat-related deaths and reduce loitering. 

The city wants to help 10 families, currently living in their cars get into apartments. The city plans to provide 20 people with housing support. 

The proposal still needs to be approved by the city council.
